In light of these good things, some of you may be asking, “Why not allow us to keep our phones in our bags?” The reason is simple: there are more good things to be had by putting your phones and watches out of sight and away from you. We are making these changes, and investing significant time and resources into this program because we believe doing so will be better for everyone involved in our community. We are not making these decisions out of mistrust or a desire to be unnecessarily difficult or harsh.

2024 Parents & Pedagogy
October 17th, 2024

One of the most common things parents say about Pacifica is "I wish I could go to school here!" And it is that sentiment that prompted the creation of Parents & Pedagogy, a peek into Pacifica's curriculum. At this year's event, over 70 parents attended "class" with four of our esteemed faculty members and lived out their desire to return to high school, albeit a high school much different than the one they attended. You, too, can take that journey by watching the videos from that event linked below. We invite you to watch the recordings of our recent event here!

A Primer for Mentoring at Pacifica
September 30th, 2024

“Always remember that teaching is not just about communicating content, but about forming young people. You need to understand and love them, to awaken their innate thirst for truth and their yearning for transcendence. Be for them a source of encouragement and strength.” The content we teach, the sport we coach, and the play we produce are all important; but our mission is aimed at forming students to think well in order that they can live well. Our role—no matter our title—is to remember that our mission applies to each individual student we serve. As Benedict put it, we are to serve as a source of encouragement and strength. To this end, we serve as mentors to our students. We are to mentor. Because mentoring is an effective means of forming students.
Inhabiting the Immersive Studio Album
September 24th, 2024

"Inhabiting the Immersive Studio Album" explores American actor and musician Donald Glover's creative vision for the pop studio album as an immersive world with stories and lives inside. As pop studio albums become increasingly experiential and immersive, the piece draws a connection between Glover's vision and J.R.R. Tolkien's academic work on the literary writer as a "sub-creator" of fantasy worlds. The piece argues that Tolkien's theological reflections on fantasy literature, if applied to the medium of pop albums, points both the pop artist and the listener to the fullness of beauty only experienced in The Ultimate Artist's world.
