College Planning Curriculum

Freshman Year – An Introduction

  • Annual meeting with the academic counselor
  • PSAT preparation begins
  • PSAT testing for all freshman
  • ACT/SAT problems introduced in class
  • Guidance selecting 10th grade courses & connecting to school
  • Freshman parent night – starting the journey

Sophomore Year – Building Confidence

  • Annual meeting with the academic counselor
  • Optional day trips to colleges throughout Southern California
  • PSAT preparation continues – tutoring and bootcamp available
  • All sophomores take the PSAT
  • Guidance selecting 11th grade courses & staying involved
  • ACT/SAT problems continued in class
  • MOCK ACT & SAT offered
  • Sophomore parent night – staying on course
  • NAVIANCE – college search and organizational tool introduced
  • Research summer programs and service opportunities
  • College representatives on campus – small group meetings
  • Out of state college trip offered

Junior Year – Paving the Way

  • College Boot Camp offered in summer
  • Individual meetings with the college counselor
  • Small group meetings with the college counselor
  • College representatives on campus – small group meetings
  • NAVIANCE – college search and organizational tool training
  • Optional day trips to Southern California colleges
  • PSAT preparation continues – tutoring and bootcamp available
  • All juniors are encouraged to take the PSAT on campus
  • MOCK SAT & ACT offered
  • ACT/SAT preparation course on campus
  • All juniors are encouraged to take the ACT or SAT twice
  • ACT/SAT problems continued in class
  • Research summer programs and service opportunities
  • Junior parent night – the nuts and bolts
  • Teacher recommendations requested
  • Resume created – activities documented
  • The college list created

Senior Year – Opening Doors

  • Small group meetings with the college counselor
  • Individual meetings with the college counselor
  • NAVIANCE – college search and organizational tool utilized
  • SAT/ACT/Subject Tests taken
  • Optional day trips to Southern California colleges
  • Take advantage of college campus visitation days
  • Personal statement workshops
  • College representative on campus – small group meetings
  • Senior parent night – finalizing applications, transcripts and test scores
  • Financial Aid night – the FAFSA, need based aid, merit aid
  • Signing Day – Pacifica athletes sign letters of intent
